Two
more men have joined the group near the shop. When she left, they looked at the
woman walking alone. There was no one with her.
From
the glass window of the shop, her back was fully visible. She was wearing a
jeans that her father had gifted when he had come to this little hilly town for
a job.
“ Such girls are good for one night stands”,
one of the men said, chuckling. The three men chortled, sending echoes in the street.
The
next day she came again to the shop at the same time. Those men were also there
in the group standing exactly at the same place.
“We
are offering discounts on all medicines. Would you like to share your mobile
number?”, the owner asked. Without waiting for her to respond, he continued, “What’s
your name by the way?.”
She
raised her head, smiled a bit, and said, “No bhaiya. Thank you. I don’t need
any discount..”
The
owner felt insulted and did not ask anything after that.
“She
is characterless, must be a dhande wali”, the owner of the shop said.
“Can you find out her rate tomorrow”, one of
the men asked.
The next day, everyone in the street waited for her to come.
